Rhody Ridge Arboretum
Rhody Ridge Arboretum began in 1957 when Merlin and Fir Butler purchased 5 acres in Bothell, WA. With the desire to create an enduring greenspace that was an asset to the community, they deeded their 5 acres to the Snohomish County Parks Department. The county purchased an additional 6 acres, increasing the garden size to 11.37 acres.
Named for rhododendrons the Butlers grew from seedlings, the Rhody Ridge Arboretum includes some of the largest mature species and hybrid rhododendrons in the Seattle area.
To maintain the beauty of the arboretum in accordance with the Butlers’ vision, the Rhody Ridge Arboretum Foundation was established in 2015 and is governed by a volunteer board that coordinates the support of volunteers, gardeners, arborists, and other community members.
