Bloedel Reserve

As the Director of Horticulture & Design at Bloedel Reserve, I am constantly inspired by the landscape under my stewardship. Each time I walk the grounds, I am struck by the harmonious blend of natural beauty and thoughtful design that defines the Reserve. The gardens exemplify the idea that people and their environments transform each other; our impressions of the landscape shape our expressions, and vice versa.
Bloedel Reserve is a living canvas that celebrates both the rawness of nature and the artistry of human intervention. Our towering evergreen forests, peaceful meadows, and meticulously curated garden compositions are designed to offer an emotional experience where visitors can connect deeply with the natural world. The gardens embody a blend of design philosophies, from the formal elements of a Japanese Garden to the naturalistic approach of modernist minimalism. These living collections are not just about preserving plants; they are about creating spaces that provide a sense of calm and inspiration.
As a heritage landscape, we integrate heritage planning into our horticultural practices. This approach fosters community connection and builds bonds between people and places, ensuring that Bloedel remains a dynamic space that honors its past while looking toward the future. I am honored to contribute to this ongoing story, helping to nurture the land, human spirit, and the communities that sustain us.
