Echiums in Bloom

Echiums abound this time of year on the grounds at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. These particular species, Echium pininana and wildpretii, are endemic to the Canary Islands located off the west coast of Africa. Gazillions of bees visit these flowers during the several weeks they are in bloom. Justin and Brooke from our horticultural team take great delight in caring for these magnificent plants.
