As I walk through the arboretum, I am in awe of the beauty of the gardens, both in the thoughtful layout that allows me to roam so freely and in how it affects all of my senses that I use in my art and gardening

Gayle Harris, artist, gardener

The UW Botanic Gardens includes the Soest Herbaceous Display Garden... and the Union Bay Natural Area, a wonderful setting to see wildlife... but the gem of the gardens is the 230 acre arboretum containing practically every tree and shrub known to mankind, all name-tagged so you can learn as you stroll the winding paths.  The new Pacific Connections Garden displays rare plants from far corners of the world that grow well in the Pacific Northwest.

Ciscoe Morris, author, speaker

The backdrop for much of Seattle’s landscape beauty today is the legacy left by the Olmsted brothers and their designs for Seattle’s Park system.... The Washington Park Arboretum is a prime example of these principles. Today the very nature of historic landscapes, whether they be public or private make them ever-changing and they need different management to maintain their historic integrity and preserve the experience they are intended to provide.

Donald Harris, retired park professional, grandfather

The Washington Park Arboretum is one of the most magnificent collections of trees, shrubs and vines in the world.  It is the oldest arboretum on the west coast.  It is now treasured by millions for its collections, it beauty and as a place to enjoy nature.

Dr.  John A. Wott, Director emeritus, UWBG

I have always loved to be outside. Parks and gardens allow new and interesting places to explore.
