Far Reaches Farm

The gardens in Port Townsend reflect the years of rare plant acquisition through the plant hunting efforts of Far Reaches Farm, and more recently, Far Reaches Botanical Conservancy. The shade garden, dry garden, crevice garden and borders offer diverse niche opportunities to trial and display plants new to cultivation. Going against conventional business prudence, Far Reaches’ Kelly Dodson and Sue Milliken continue to expand the extensive collections of Podophyllum, Roscoea, Polygonatum, Gentiana, Veratrum and Ferns among other groups of plants that are both beautiful and botanically bewitching.

Wandering through the plant collections at Far Reaches takes you on a voyage of discovery - I always find something new, something I’ve never heard of whenever I visit. Their excellent, knowledgeable team have helped to broaden our Pacific Northwest palette of plants, whilst also conserving the World’s rare and curious flora. No passport required!

Far Reaches is hands-down my favorite Puget Sound nursery experience. it's the ultimate treasure hunt — an amazing adventure and a plant lover’s dream, full of inspiration at every turn. From greenhouses packed with surprises, tables full of treats, and stunning display gardens, Far Reaches never disappoints. A perfect way to spend the day!

Nancy Heckler, passionate gardener

Conservation of plant species through wild collection, cultivation and distribution has, in truth, a greater likelihood of making a long term difference in maintaining a biologically diverse planet than collecting and breeding animals or birds in zoological settings. Anyone willing to put themselves in the discomfort of travel to remote regions to inventory the remaining intact flora should be commended and supported.
