McMenamins Anderson School

February 15, 2024

Gardens exist to showcase nature’s beautiful botanic diversity, create wildlife habitat, and provide delicious produce. But they can also be just plain fun. Or how about all of the above? That’s our goal at McMenamins Anderson School garden.

McMenamins is a family-owned company creating neighborhood gathering spaces and vacation destinations around Oregon and Washington since 1983. Steeped in art, history and a sense of place, our locations range from neighborhood pubs to historic hotels where swimming pools, live music, gardens and other fun prevail.

Since its opening in 2015, the grounds of the 5-acre Anderson School have become a destination for garden lovers. Each season displays the diversity of plants that thrive in our region. From our wild meadow, mixed perennial borders, desert garden and tropical indoor lagoon, it’s a delightful space that is always evolving. Our kitchen garden provides organic produce for the three restaurants on the property and herbs that flavor our bars’ signature cocktails. It is both a challenge and pleasure to manage it all.

But gardens are not just about plants. They are also about people. Our garden is open to all in our community and provides a botanical garden experience to all our guests, whether they intended to experience it or not, or knew they needed it. There is a profound pleasure in giving this away. When guests find our garden to be a place of relaxation or discovery, when they only intended to come in for a drink or a meal, then our work was worth it.
